Hum Saath Saath Hain (HSSH) is a typical Rajshri film. Like in his earlier film Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, in this film too director Sooraj Barjatya has focused on life in a joint family.

The story of HSSH revolves around a happy joint family, whose members come together to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of Ramkishen (Alok Nath) and Mamta (Reema). They have four lovely grown up children - Vivek (Mohnish Behl), Prem (Salman Khan), Sangeeta (Neelam) and Vinod (Saif Ali Khan), who share a close bonding with each other.

Sangeeta is married to Anand (Mahesh Thakur) and they have a sweet little daughter. Mamta's brother and his wife (Ajit Vachchani and Himani Shivpuri), family friend (Satish Shah), his daughter Preeti (Sonali Bendre), Anwar (Shakti Kapoor) also join the celebration.

Sapna (Karisma Kapoor), her father (Sadashiv Amrapurkar), Durga mausi (Shammi), Sadhana (Tabu) and her father (Rajiv Verma) are also there.

As the story moves along, Vivek weds Sadhana, Prem gets engaged to Preeti and Vinod falls in love with Sapna.

Ramkishenji's dream is to have all his sons and daughter-in-laws stay together, sharing with each other life's joys and sorrows. However, the so-called well-wishers of the family keep talking about how families are breaking up in today's times.

One day, problems arise in Sangeeta's family. Sangeeta and her husband Anand have to move out of their ancestral home and start life anew. This comes as a jolt to Ramkishenji's family. Ramkishenji's wife, Mamta, feels pained for her daughter and starts worrying about the future of her sons.

There is talk of separating the boys. But Ramkishenji's ideals prevail. The sons and the daughter-in-laws stand united in their moment of crisis.

Finally, Sangeeta and Anand are happily re-united with their family. The sons and daughter-in-laws prove that the family that eats and prays together... stays together.

As far as the story is concerned, the film has nothing new. The big cast is largely decorative. They have nothing challenging to do.

The music has been scored by Ram Laxman. Mhare Hiwda Mein is the best of the lot.

It's a good family entertainment.
